OPTIMIZING FIRING ORDER

The KA100 is a 2-stroke engine where ignition timing is everything. Unlike 4-stroke engines, the "firing order" isn't about multiple cylinders, but rather the precise millisecond the spark plug fires relative to Top Dead Center (TDC).

The Secret Sauce: Retarding the timing slightly can increase over-rev capability at the end of long straights, while advancing it gives you that punch out of corners. The key is finding the balance where EGT (Exhaust Gas Temps) stay within the optimal 1100-1200°F range.

By optimizing your engine's firing sequence through precise stator alignment, you can boost effective horsepower by up to 10% in specific RPM bands.

Many drivers fear the rev limiter, treating it like a mechanical wall. However, in KA100 racing, bouncing the limiter can sometimes be faster than an upshift.

If you are 50 feet from a braking zone, shifting up costs time due to the momentary power cut. Instead, holding the gear and letting the engine flutter on the limiter can maintain momentum and simplify your braking process.
